This is a very powerful form of abuse.

Control of finances can happen to anyone of any gender. However, men again are quite overlooked as the abuse target.

Joint accounts can be used to run up debt and keep the abuser’s target’s spending power dependent on the abuser.

Money can be drained in a way to be unable to pay loans or mortgages in the target’s name to destroy their credit.

Not allowing the target to work, or the abuser choosing not to work but still demanding the target to pay for everything.

The abuser could fraud the government, such as tax or benefits, in a way that puts the target at risk.

There are many ways finances can be used to control someone and force them to stay in a relationship.
