Control of social activities is another method abuser’s will use to maintain a relationship. Men are typically, but not always, less adept at social interactions and can be more vulnerable here.
The end goal of an abuser is to isolate their target by limiting, or completely destroying, their social support structures.
Abusers will demand that their target not go out with friends, or only let them go out with the abuser present where they can control those activities.
Abusers may spread lies and false claims to damage their target’s character and destroy relationships.
Abusers may not allow access to their target’s phone, or not let them use it without being present. The abuser may not allow their target to use social media and demand full access to emails and accounts.
If you or someone you know has been a target of Social Abuse, our Domestic Abuse Recovery Program might be for you.
